Afghan 93

This was another afghan that I started and stopped. I started it to use up yarn, and having made several "boy" afghans, thought I should throw in pink yarn. That pink yarn held me up, as I got the wrong color of pink, which led me to start afghan 93. In the process of starting and stopping the project, I forgot how I was doing the edging, and it got a bit wonky. By the time I finished the blanket, I needed more boy afghans again. Sigh. Oh well. At least there's always crocheting to do, and thanks to my wonderful neurologist finding a treatment for my dystonia, I can still do it!

Afghan 92

I tell myself to work on only one afghan at a time, but I run into reason after reason to start several. Case in point: this was a second afghan that I started because I got the wrong color of pink to continue on the first afghan I started. This afghan, with its alternating half double crochet pattern turned out to be pretty easy and mindless, so I decided to finish it first, and I like the way it turned out! It is not quite the 40 x 40 inch size I wanted, but when are my blankets ever the size I expect? It is about time for a pink blanket, too (though as circumstances would have it, I need boy baby blankets right now). Here are the details for the blanket:

Afghan 91

Crocheting is kind of my "party trick" (enter meeting or other gathering where I need to keep my hands busy). In this case, it kind of backfired. I chose this afghan pattern while we had company over (I think for my husband's birthday in September 2025, but I'm not totally sure), so I really wasn't paying that much attention. The pattern is labeled as "intermediate" level, but it was really kind of complicated. I ran out of yarn a few times and let the afghan be. But finally, finally, it's done.

I don't think I want to do a pattern like this for a long time, or ever. The point of crocheting for me is to have a soothing activity I can do almost without thinking. This took a lot of thinking and counting and tallying. The texture is cool, but not worth it for me!

I chained 141 for 14 shells, and did around 25 rows. (The full blanket size was 128 rows. I cannot imagine doing that many!)

Afghan 90

This was a nice, pretty blanket that worked up easily with various skeins of yarn I had lying around. With just half-double crochet and slip stitches, it worked up pretty mindlessly-perfect for picking up and putting down without losing the pattern. It went to a very special little girl whom I haven't met in person, but already love very much!

Afghan 89

I tend to start a new afghan when I travel, so this is actually the most recent afghan I started. (I have two more in progress.) I started it over Thanksgiving and finished it in the new year. It worked up pretty quickly, and I cannot complain about the ease of a slip stitch edging! All in all, I am very happy with this blanket. It goes out to the very special third little boy of my sweet cousin!

Afghan 88

I started this afghan as a third afghan in progress because I did not want to take the other partially made ones on my trips. (I like to crochet on trips.) What do you know? It's the first one that I finished!

Yes, it is another white afghan. I work with the yarn I have, or can access easily. In this case it is Mainstays white from Walmart. The blanket is not quite as pretty spread out, as folded. Somewhere I must have made a mistake, because the afghan ripple is skewed slightly to one side. When washed and blocked, however, I do not think it will be an issue. Plus, I want a baby to get the use the blanket, not just look at it, so better practical than perfect!

Afghan 87

We will call this my car blanket, not as in a blanket for the car, but a blanket made in the car. Yes, I crochet most of my afghans in the car going to and from church. I made most of this one on our summer road trips, however. It was not without some angst, not due to the pattern, but due to the skeins of yarn that kept getting matted and tangled, even after rolling into balls. (I did not do the optional borer row because I just wanted to be done.) In the end, this afghan turned out on and lean, not quite the 36 by 54 inch crib size I aimed for, but still a blanket that I hope will bless a baby.

Afghan 86

I am finally starting to rebuild my baby afghan gift stash! I started this afghan under duress, having left my current afghan and ergonomic crochet hook at work, but needing and wanting something to do to keep my hands busy. I picked this pattern because it seemed simple, and easy, and it was! This afghan worked up a bit more slowly than some others, due to the single crochet stitch, but I liked it.

I started out with the Red Heart royal yarn because it was all I had. I added the white when it ran out. I liked the way the stripes looked, so I kept at it. I think the navy and white have kind of a coastal vibe.

I used a different hook for this afghan, a handle into which the crocheter inserts her own hook. I had not figured out how to use it when my friend gifted it to me, but after reading and re-reading the instructions, I got it. After making an entire afghan with this hook, I think it might be my go-to for future projects! All in all, I thank God that this was a more enjoyable afghan to crochet this time around!

Afghan 85

Another one done! This was not my favorite blanket to crochet. Something about it just seemed tedious. Despite not using bulky yarn as instructed, this blanket did work up pretty quickly, though. (Double crochet blankets tend to do that.) The ombre color effect was not intended, but rather a result of different dye lot yarns. (I have never had a dye lot difference be this apparent, but there is a first time for everything.) Overall, I am both pleased with this blanket and glad it is done!

Afghan 84

Another one is done! I started this one using the yarn from afghans 80 and 82, and then had to make a run to Hobby Lobby to get more. (Thankfully I got there in time to get the last three skeins on the shelf!) All in all, this was, as the pattern claimed, an easy afghan. Although I started the edging with skepticism as to how it would turn out, I ended up liking the way it turned out.

Afghan 83

Special blankets are for special people! Bestie requested green and/or sunflowers for her baby, and a Google search delivered both in this pattern from The Caffeinated Snail. This is my first blanket with a wave border, worked backwards and then forwards, as well as my first blanket with applique. Overall, though, the pattern was extremely accessible. The creator even gave options for a simpler border, and making the applique without a magic ring (the latter option which I took).

(For once, a blanket actually turned out the size that it was supposed to. I did have to add a few rows past what the creator suggested to get the white the right size, though. Maybe I just actually followed the pattern this time...)

Afghan 82

This blanket was NOT done in a day, but done over the course of several months. (That would be my fault for using regular, rather than chunky yarn.) It became a blanket of idiosyncrasies: I aimed to make the blanket crib-sized (36 x 54 inches), but it became smaller due to my gauge and running out of a color of yarn I did not know where to buy anymore. I chose to carry the yarn, rather than cutting each time I changed colors (rather than cutting it and rejoining each time), which cinched up the carrying side. Walmart apparently changed their white lot between my first and last purchases of yarn. All in all, though, I got the blanket done. Hopefully the idiosyncrasies will fade once a baby begins to use it.

Afghan 81

By God's grace, afghan 81! This blanket was supposed to be done in chunky yarn, but of course, I  used regular yarn. That made it take a little longer. I chained 120 to start, and even then it still ended up a bit small. The extended single crochet stitch in the blanket was a new one for me, though. Figuring out the stitch was a win! I carried the yarn instead of cutting it each time, and in the end, the blanket shows a few mistakes. Hopefully it will still bless the dreams of some baby, though!

Afghan 80

How have I gotten to 80 afghans? I've been crocheting since sixth grade (and making baby afghans shortly thereafter). That's how!

This blanket was of medium difficulty. It combined double crochet and single crochet stitches, as well as some front and back post work. I had a little trouble keeping the edges even. (In the end, though, who notices?) The blanket also curled some, which I see now in the pattern, I could have taken some steps to fix, but I will attempt to correct via blocking. I changed colors at alternate times, making color chunks of various size, which I quite like. All in all, I liked the way this turned out: thick, and dense, with some texture that hopefully baby will love!

And close on the heels of afghan 77 comes afghan 78. (I really need to work on one blanket at a time, but alas, I usually have several going.) This one turned out small (preemie size) due to the yarn I have, but hopefully it will still benefit its recipient.

Afghan 77

Afghan 77 in the books! I actually started this one after another one. (I wanted a smaller blanket to pack for a trip, my trip to Fresh15, if I remember correctly.) Now, a skein and a half of yarn and six months later, here we are!

I used the easy crochet baby blanket pattern from Daisy Crafts for this one. I crocheted with my favorite size J Boye ergonomic crochet hook (the only one I use anymore) and Red Heart soft navy yarn. The blanket turned out an odd size: 28 x 39, but it looks okay.

Upward and onward! (I mean, I need to finish the afghan I started before this one....)

Afghan 76

Afghan 76! A different pattern with a bit of texture, and overall, it worked up pretty fast. And the edging went well, a rarity for me. (See my struggles here.)

Afghan 75

Afghan 75 is in the books! This was a fairly easy one, made with half double crochet stitches and color changes every 10 rows. The afghan did turn out square, which was a bit different.

My friend requested "no pink" but "girly blue" for her new little one. Hopefully fits the bill!

Afghan 74

Another afghan off the bucket list. This is the the Oliver baby blanket from Edie Eckman. I used a chain of 121 and chose Red Heart spring green, Mainstays white, Red Heart royal blue yarn for my colors. (I used my ergonomic J hook again.) I accidentally forgot row two of the border, but otherwise, I think I made this as written. It was pretty easy, and worked up quickly with the half double crochet. My finished size came out to be 32 by 36 inches.
