The year of 2016 has almost gone and 2017 is coming. Therefore, it's time to review my 16 goals for 2016:
1) GO! on a cruise. Done! And I want to go on another one.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work. I think I decided that I like doing this, but it is helpful to monitor how often and how much I use my phone.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic. Improving. I recently bought more Pyrex-like containers, and my brother and sister-in-law gave me three more for Christmas.
4) Find my rambunctious side again. I don't think I accomplished this one. Maybe I'm just a serious old person.
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old. I realized that Scripture memory doesn't happen unless I make it happen. Now I try to memorize at least one verse, or part of a verse before eating my snack at night.
6) Clean out the pantry (fridge, freezer, et. al) and go on a grocery spend fast until it is done. This was a good experience and made me realize how wealthy I really am. I seek to continually be vigilant about using what I have, but also enjoying the blessings of sometimes having excess.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing. Moving helped some, but I'll need to purge again when I move out on my own. I have so much stuff!
8) Run a 5K. I ran three: the Race for the Cure 5K with housemates, the LPGA 5K with co-workers, and the Patriot Run with my family as spectators.
9) Embrace the quiet. I reinstated silent retreats once a month after realizing that I'd forgotten to do them since I moved to Arizona. I think I will need to learn more about silence for as long as I live.
10) Pursue counseling licensure. Done! Praise the Lord for granting me favor with the State Board. Now I just pray to find a place and a way to use my license.
11) Rest. I'm resting more, but again, I need to learn more.
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet) Ditto. I can always learn to eat better, but also to have grace with myself when I don't.
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list. I find it very helpful to bullet journal my tasks lists in my personal and work planners. I plan to continue this in 2017.
14) Finish the books I have and read more. I think I read 48 this year. That would be four per month.
15) Spend time with and love the people around me. I enjoyed Thai dinner with little brother twice, a weekend away with Mom, and watching a movie with my sister-in-law who visited us for Christmas. I could probably do a better job about being present (not on my phone, cross-wording, crocheting, etc.) while with people, however.
16) Blog. Instagram. Something. (Experiment.) This marks a year of blogging, and almost six months of Instagram. Are these efforts really worth it? Beneficial to me? Beneficial to others? I don't need to write or post for others, but it does make it more fun. It also takes time. If I quit social media (sometimes I have the urge), I'd have more time. But what would I do with it? Crochet (hand-allowing)? Read? Volunteer? I need some down time, but is social media the best use of it? That might be a question for 2017.

Things I've Learned in 2016
- To trust my gut more. Sometimes something is the right thing to do just because it feels right. The still, small voice inside me is the Holy Spirit, and instead of debating with myself so much, I just need to listen and act. This will relieve my stress and anxiety and when I'm wrong, I'll probably sense the conviction of the Holy Spirit more.
- I love my people! I've been so blessed by coworkers and housemates and college friends and family, both near and far. Thank you to all who have poured into my life!
- God provides. I needed a job. I needed a place to live. I wanted my counseling license. I wanted friends. God provided at just the right time every time. God's provisions don't always as I like or as I expect, but God truly does take care of my needs.
- Unanswered prayer is hard! We're still waiting for answers to months of prayers for someone I love very much.
- I use my phone a lot. (Hence its diminished memory availability) I use and enjoy Facebook and Instagram and Pinterest-a lot. But are these healthy for me? How do I find balance? I haven't quite figured that out, and maybe I never will.
- Cooking is therapeutic. I am so thankful to live at home and not eat leftovers every day, but I miss the processes of making and crafting food. Perhaps more in the future.
- Good versus best. This is a recent realization. I want to do a good job at everything, but not everything deserves my best efforts.
- Rest is a choice. There is never "enough" time for it, so I have to choose to embrace it. That means letting cleaning projects and to-dos and want-to-dos go. But rest is worthwhile, and rejuvenating.
- The Word is crucial! In these changing, trying times, I must continue to read and memorize the Bible. God reveals Himself through it and I need its truths.

November News
I don't know how many people read these monthly updates, but I said I'd do this as my New Year's resolution, so here goes. These are the things I'm still working on, haven't done yet, or decided not to do.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work.
I think I've decided that I like checking e-mail on my phone at work. It leaves less to do at home and gives me a brief distraction. BUT...I need to limit the amount of checking. Once in the morning, once at lunch, and once before I leave is a good amount for me.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic.
I asked for more glass containers for Christmas. I still enjoy using mason jars as much as I can. I use plastic in moderation and try not to microwave in it whenever possible.
4) Find my rambunctious side again.
I think I've given up. I'm an "old person" now and I realized today that my former housemates were a big part of me being more lighthearted. (Miss you girls!) I enjoy life here, but I'm more serious.
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old.
I've come to the conclusion that I have to give up nightly Psalm of the day reading if I want to make time for memorization. I no longer force myself to memorize an entire verse, but rather try to work on a phrase or two. It's slow-going, but helps me examine Scripture in order to see it in new ways.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing.
I purged my Arkansas house. Now I'm purging here. But living at home, I have a basement full of home goods in another place. I need to find my own space or sell/give away a lot.
9) Embrace the quiet.
Nighttime snack is about all I get. I try to wait until others leave the kitchen to start, but sometimes I just have to try to make my own quiet amidst the chaos.
11) Rest.
Let's be honest. I spent (and enjoyed) a lot of time on Pinterest, Thanksgiving, and Facebook over Thanksgiving break. I also read a lot.
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet)
Sometimes I don't know what to eat. So I just eat.
14) Finish the books I have and read more.
15) Spend time with and love the people around me.
Dad and I went to the Christmas light parade and Panera Bread this weekend. Good times.
16) Blog. Instagram. Something.
Blogging is cathartic, but I don't always know if people read what I write. (Does it matter?) I like Instagram, but often think my posts promote egotism. Sigh. Most good things in life have great potential to become vices.

October's Over!
October's over. Can you believe it? I can't! The days of this life seem to pass so quickly. I wish I could say that I've been focusing on my goals, but the truth is, I'm just living day by day. Some days, I survive. Some days, I do a bit better, but I can honestly say that I'm not to the thriving part yet. But oh well. Here's to having goals, even if I don't remember to embrace them.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work. Some days at work are so busy that I don't remember to check my phone. Or I have students in my office and need to hide my phone. My phone e-mail hasn't been loading at work, either, so overall, I'd say that this issue is taking care of itself.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic.Still enjoying peanut butter jars for overnight oats and the Anchor bowls for lunches.
4) Find my rambunctious side again.I dressed up as Uranium from the periodic table for work today. Does that count?
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old.
Scripture memory takes intentional planning. I had to decide to substitute scripture memory for listening to a Psalm every night. There just isn't time for everything.
6) Clean out the pantry (fridge, freezer, et. al) and go on a grocery spend fast until it is done.I live at home, so I don't buy groceries per se, but I still like to use what I have on hand. For example, this weekend, I plan to make this recipe with leftover white beans, kale, and tomatoes from Mom's garden.
7.) Purge excess. Soak up blessing.
I'm acquiring more stuff, when most of my stuff is already in storage. I need to unpack what I have in storage or sell it. Decisions...
9) Embrace the quiet.
Hard. I've found that thoughts can be noisy, too. I just want my brain and my environment to be silent so I can hear God speak.
11) Rest.Struggling. See above. And I keep waking up at 4 am. That needs to stop!
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce.
I need to work on this one. I've been eating convenience foods and I really feel better when I cook and eat more whole foods.
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list.
It works!
14) Finish the books I have and read more.
Fall break gave me a little extra time, so I read four books this month. I made it through two non-fiction books, which were good breaks from the fantasy of fiction.
15) Spend time with and love the people around me.
Mom and I took a little trip to Phoenix for dinner and hang-out time. A former housemate and I met up for Starbuck's and a trip to IKEA. I've found a group of girls to lunch with at Panera each week after church. I am grateful.
16) Blog. Instagram. Something.

Another Month, Another Blog
Here's a recap on The List. Only three more months of the year and then it's time to make a new list. I'd like to go smaller next time. The length of this list makes it hard to focus.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work.
I check for mail when I get to work, at lunch, and before I leave. Having to "hide" my phone usage from students helps my self control. (Students aren't allowed to have their phones out at school.)
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic.
I bought this set of glass bowls for like $6 at TJ Maxx, and they're invaluable! Now I want to buy more so that I can pack all five of my lunches at once. (I often use two plastic containers when I do this.)
4) Find my rambunctious side again.
???
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old.
I finished reviewing Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. I'm trying to memorize Galatians, but let's be honest: I'm not doing a very good job. I just don't make time to memorize any more.
6) Clean out the pantry (fridge, freezer, et. al) and go on a grocery spend fast
until it is done.
Since I'm living at home with my parents, Mom buys most of the groceries. I still try to make recipes that use up what's in the cupboards, though. Today, I made this Caribbean black eyed peas stew with leftover beans, potatoes we had in the produce bowl, and the cilantro in the fridge from last week's curry.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing.
I'm doing quite fine living a simpler life (sans the stuff in storage)...except I need my winter clothes. I don't know where I'll put them, but I need them.
8) Run a 5K.
I ran in The Patriot 5K September 10. My family watched for the first time, which was super fun!
9) Embrace the quiet.
I realized last month that I hadn't taken time for a silent retreat since I moved home. That's a two month hiatus...not good. So I went to church Saturday night and spent some time alone Sunday morning. I got to calm my mind and think a little. The only realization I had is that God is able, big enough to accomplish whatever He wants to do. I don't know what that means specifically, but it's a truth I need to remember. Therefore, I posted it to my mirror.
10) Pursue counseling licensure.
My LAC license finally arrived! Now I need to find a way to use it in two years before I lose it.
11) Rest.
I was going to bed earlier, but I've had late nights this week. I'm slow at snacking, lolly-gagging around. My mind is going a million miles an hour. I need to find ways to rest my mind so I can rest my body, too.
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet)
I'm eating vegetables, but I'm also eating lots of cold cereal-maybe because I didn't buy it as a single person? I don't know. I'm just trying to let my body have what it wants.
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list.
Still at it! I even do this at work. I've shown students the basics in case they want to try. I'm definitely a fan!
14) Finish the books I have and read more.
I was reading a lot of fiction, but this week, I've read very little. I started Brene Brown's Rising Strong, which is awesome, but I need to finish it before it's due at the library next Saturday.
15) Spend time with and love the people around me.
Working on it. Living with family reminds me how selfish I am sometimes. There's a balance between self-care and self-preservation and selflessness that I'm still trying to find.
16) Blog. Instagram. Something. (Experiment.)
I took last month off Instagram to rest priorities, and I want to go back. The problem is that I feel so much pressure to make a good first post. I probably just need to post and get it over with.

Another Month?
Another month has gone by? Really? Life of late seems to be a blur. But here's the update on this year's goals.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work.
We're not supposed to use social media at work, so that mostly keeps me off my phone. Students are not allowed to have phones, so I try to be a good example and keep my stowed away. I am in a habit of checking my phone when I arrive at work, eat lunch, and leave work. I think this is a healthy balance.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic.
After a week of using one round plastic container over and over, I bought some two-cup glass Anchor dishes with lids at TJMaxx. With three of them, I have enough to rotate through the wash, and they are so convenient! Additionally, I feel better about microwaving my food every day for lunch.
4) Find my rambunctious side again.
I work with high schoolers, so I try to be professional. But I also want to be personable.
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old.
I'm not making very fast progress, but I wrote out some Galatians verses to learn.
8) Run a 5K.
I signed up to a run the Patriot 5K in Arizona next Saturday. I pray that works out.
9) Embrace the quiet.
I've been going to bed earlier this week, so that's one way to embrace quiet, I guess.
10) Pursue counseling licensure.
I paid my LAC licensing fee today. We will see where that takes me.
11) Rest.
See 9).
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet)
I'm trying to keep eating lots of produce, but lately I have really enjoyed big bowls of cold cereal. I'm trying to be okay with that. It's what my body wants right now.
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list.
I have a personal and a work bullet journal planner. It's awesome!
14) Finish the books I have and read more.
In August, I read five books. I can read one a weekend if I try. But reading is a good way to rest. (See 11.)
15) Spend time with and love the people around me.
I am blessed to live with my Dad, Mom, and youngest brother. I spent lots of time talking to them in the mornings, at night, and any other time I see them. Sometimes it feels like I waste time, but I want to savor this time because it is limited.
16) Blog. Instagram. Something. (Experiment.)
I might not be doing a very good job, but I'm still at it.

New Life
Second Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!" Paul is primarily talking about the new life that comes through Christ by redemption and faith. I believe that a walk with Jesus is a constant process of redemption, renewal, and restoration, however. I see evidence of this in my life now. God moved me to move to Arizona. He allowed my parents to bless me by allowing me to live with them. He gave me a job. These changes have been good, and hard. They are changing my goals and priorities.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work.
I did turn my phone e-mail on, but we're not supposed to use social media at work, so I try to keep my phone put away and only use the e-mail function when necessary.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic.
Mom has a GREAT stash of glass mason jars. I enjoy using them for yogurt, overnight oats, etc. This is a benefit of living at home.
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old.
I'm still working on Colossians. I'll be honest that I still don't want to engage my brain to memorize. I just want to check out and relax. When I do study the Scriptures, however, God's truths ring loud and clear, like when I studied Colossians 3:17-24 that talks about serving God and not human masters. I had just started my new job and wanted to please people. God reminded me that I need to please him.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing.
I threw out a lot of childhood stuff when I moved back into my room at home. Memories are memories, but at some point the old stuff has to go to make room for the new.
8) Run a 5K.
I'm trying to train my body to run at the higher altitude here in Arizona. I hope to eventually run a 5K here.
9) Embrace the quiet.
With four people in a house, there is not a lot of physical quiet. I am trying to engage in quiet activities, however, like coloring on Sunday afternoons, especially while talking to my brother and sister-in-law on the phone.
10) Pursue counseling licensure.
Praise the Lord, I passed the NCE! I still don't know what to do about Arizona licensure, however. My current job isn't counseling, per se, but I believe God led me here. I am praying about what to do.
11) Rest.
Rest is a struggle. There is always something going on. Thanks to living at home, I do get to read the newspaper at snack time each night, though. I like that.
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet)
Another blessing of home: fresh green beans, squash, etc. from Mom's garden. Mmm!
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list.
I made some paper lists while not working, but mostly use my planner now. Yeah!
14) Finish the books I have and read more.
I've read one whole book this month: Gilead, a parting gift from my housemate. I would like to read more, but see 11).
15) Spend time with and love the people around me.
Right now, I live with my parents and little brother, so I get the blessing of seeing them every day. We have family dinner each night. I walk with Mom on weekend mornings. We play games together on Sunday nights. I have missed this!
16) Blog. Instagram. Something. (Experiment.)
I like Instagram (@myarizonaadventure), but must admit that I get carried away with it sometimes. Just like with every other part of my life, God needs to come first, and everything else, even good things, after Him.

June Update
It's been
crazy, with a big event at work, training my replacement, and moving.
My parents are graciously housing me, but my life is in all sorts of
disarray. I've got no job, no schedule, and not a clue what's next.
But God is with me, and I have many reasons to give thanks, including
progress on THE
LIST:
1) Go!
On a cruise. Done!
2)
Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work. Well,
I don't have a job anymore, but I left my personal e-mail off my
phone so that I don't obsessively check it. I left my professional
e-mail on to (hopefully) keep up with job application e-mails.
3)
Use more glass storage containers and less plastic.
Mom's all about the glass and
has a vast supply of canning jars and lids. I think I'll improve on
my glass usage here.
4)
Find my rambunctious side again. Among
other things, I have aspirations to learn to drive a pickup truck
while I'm living at home. We'll see....
5)
Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old.
I'm still working on
Colossians. Let's be honest. I'm not memorizing much at all right
now. My brain feels like mush, but would be better if I exercised it.
6)
Clean out the pantry. Moving
forced this. I used up all but my spices, some flour, a protein
bar, and some Craisins. Thankfully my housemate supplemented my diet
while I cleaned out the pantry. That meant I had protein and produce
in addition to all the carbs I owned.
7)
Purge excess. Soak up blessing. Once
again, moving helped, but I still have SO much stuff. I am thankful
for family who helped me move it, and a family friend who offered to
store it.
8)
Run a 5K. Race
number two was the LGPA
5K. It was my favorite 5K and best time so far. Plus, we got
great swag bags, including a CamelBack water bottle!
9)
Embrace the quiet. I
have a new night time quiet routine of reading the newspaper.
10)
Pursue counseling licensure. I
take the National Counseling Exam next week. Praise the Lord, and
pray I pass!
11)
Rest. I get to sleep
in until 6 am while I'm not working.
12)
Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. Salads
are back in style thanks to the Arizona heat and Mom's pantry. I've
got to stop eating sugar like I'm home on Christmas break, though. I
live here now!
13)
Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list. I
have lists everywhere, on paper and in Excel. I need to get back to
the planner.
14)
Finish the books I have and read more. I
read eight books in June. That was my coping tool.
15)
Spend time with and love the people around me. My
entire family (Dad, Mom, two brothers, sister-in-law, and Granddad)
came to help me move. Now, I get to live with Dad, Mom, and one
brother. I need to capitalize on this time.
16)
Blog. Instagram. Something.
I started an Instagram
(@MyArizonaAdventure)
to share this new journey of life with my Arkansas friends. (But
others can follow, too.)

Favorite Blogs
I recently posted about how I enjoy reading blogs, so I thought I should share some of the ones I read regularly:
Budget Bytes
The Full Helping
The Oatmeal Artist
Budget Bytes
- Food costs really vary by region, but I like the variety of recipes the blogger creates.
- Favorite recipe? Chana Aloo Masala (Chickpea and Potato Masala)
- I also like the tips Beth provides about cooking affordably. See "How to Freeze Leftovers," "How to Kick the Can (Of Beans)," and "Pantry Staples."
- I do not fully subscribe to a vegan diet or the ethics behind it, but I enjoy the creativity in Gena Hamshaw's recipes.
- Favorite recipes? Golden Butternut Squash and Chickpea Curry, Mustardy Lemon and Sweet Potato Salad, and Pumpkin Chocolate Pudding
- I skim this blog weekly, especially the "Weekend Reading," as Hamshaw provides links to a variety of issues on healthy living, often highlighting articles that don't make it into the usual press.
- I like oatmeal. Can you tell? Lauren Smith provides a great variety of oatmeal recipes, plus weekly roundups of more oatmeal goodies.
- Favorite recipes? Carrot ginger and sweet potato fudge oatmeals
- Plus, the beautiful photos on this blog inspire me to add nut butter to my porridge more often. It makes a great addition!
- My dear friend's beautifully written blog about life
- Favorite posts? "An Open Letter to the Hurting Tribe" and "What I Wish I Knew When I Was 27"
- She has a Facebook page, too!
- My cousin's blog about sewing and such
- She makes lots of her own clothes!
- She also has a cool Etsy shop!

May Musings
Lots of changes in life, so I guess it's time to update THE LIST.
1) GO! on a cruise. Done! See my list of Cruise Do's and Don'ts for more details.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work. I'm still working on this one. I enjoy my e-mails more when I check them all at once during the evening, but sometimes it seems necessary to check e-mails beforehand, and then I cannot stop.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic. I still prefer glass to plastic, but life is so crazy right now, I use whatever I can find to store leftover food. I've even microwaved in plastic. Life goes on!
4) Find my rambunctious side again. I snorkeled in Mexico. I'm taking a leap of faith to move back home to Arizona. I took a silly picture and texted it to my housemates. today. Maybe I'm getting there?
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old. I'm struggling here. With all that's going on, I can't seem to get my brain in gear to memorize. Or maybe I just want to distract my brain from the important stuff since a lot of the important stuff is stressful right now. I'm working on Colossians, though.
6) Clean out the pantry (fridge, freezer, et. al) and go on a grocery spend fast until it is done. I'm not on a grocery fast right now, but I really need to use up the food I have before I move.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing. My housemates got rid of a lot of stuff at a yard sale while I was cruising. (Thanks, girls!) I'm still trying to pare down. The blessing will come when I have less stuff to move and store.
8) Run a 5K. Lord willing that I am well, I am scheduled to run another one 6/25/16.
9) Embrace the quiet. I spent half of my silent retreat time this morning under my covers in bed. It was peaceful there, and honoring to God, I believe, to rest my body.
10) Pursue counseling licensure. You guys, I got my authorization to test letter!!! I still have to wait four weeks for testing payment to process, take the test, pass the test, wait four weeks for reporting of test results, and then apply for my LAC license, but God just got me over a major hurdle!
11) Rest. I currently have a cold, so I've been taking it easy. The Still Small Voice warned me that I'd better take it easy or risk worse infection, as was the case earlier this year.
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet) I'm still cooking from the Easy Vegetarian Slow Cooker cookbook. I' m really trying to avoid processed sugar while I'm sick. (Supposedly sugar inhibits immunity.) So I made this sweet potato pudding to satisfy my cravings.
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list. My housemate balked when she saw my bullet planner. "What is that?" She asked. My planner is overwhelming to others, but it helps me organize. Yeah!
14) Finish the books I have and read more. I've been reading a lot! I read four books in May, so that's an average of one a week. I will miss the great selection of Christian fiction at the current library, so I'm trying to read up. Plus, reading is a good way to embrace the quiet, rest, and de-stress.
15) Spend time with and love the people around me. In May, I went to my youngest brother's master's graduation and cruised with my college friend. I've had great Tuesday night dinners with housemates. Yesterday and today I saw friends. I hope to see more of the beautiful people in this place before I head out. God has truly blessed me with great friends.
16) Blog. Instagram. Something. Still going. I do like to write, but sometimes it takes awhile. I like reading blogs from other people, though, and I hope people enjoy reading this one. May God get the glory from this endeavor.

Something New
Last week was emotionally exhausting. I announced to my coworkers and friends, my Arkansas family for the last 10 years, that I will be leaving and moving back home to Arizona at the end of June. I made this decision of my own free will, but it has been hard nonetheless.
I have always wanted to go back to Arizona. I have been working on my counseling licensure for awhile now. (See The List.) I thought I would leave my current job when I had an exciting new counseling position, maybe in Arizona, or maybe in Arkansas, or maybe somewhere else. The truth is that I don't have a job lined up all.
I believe this is the right decision. I feel drawn back to Arizona for reasons I cannot even explain. But let's be honest. I'm scared. I'm leaving my job, my friends, my church, my community, my independence, and in a lot of ways, the identity I've established for myself. I don't know what is next. All I know is that I have a place to live thanks to my parents.
Second Corinthians 5:7 says, "We live by faith, not by sight," but that's way easier said than done. I like to rely on my plans and my abilities to carry out those plans, but this move is forcing me to totally rely on God. I am excited to see how God will work, and I know He will but right now I'm waiting. I'm wondering. I'm saying goodbyes. My heart is already aching. Arkansas is so special to me! But God has made it pretty clear that it is time for something new.

Is it May Already?
Where did April go? It certainly flew by, and since it is May already, I guess it is time to update THE LIST.
1) GO! on a cruise. We leave in exactly one week!
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work. I turned my e-mail off for awhile, but now, I turned it on again. I am still trying to find a balance. "It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes" (Ecc 7:18).
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old. I finally made it through Philippians.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing. My housemates are having a garage sale while I am away on my cruise. Let's get rid of the excess!
8) Run a 5K. I signed up for a second race in June.
10) Pursue counseling licensure. Still submitting paperwork.
11) Rest. M y mentor challenged me that I can make time for what's important. If I have a good book on hand, I rest more. I'm going to the library more and deciding I would rather read than surf the internet. Reading is relaxing, in moderation.
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet). I find it hard to get it enough leafy greens. As it gets warmer, I am drinking smoothies again. I can add a good bit of spinach and not really notice it.
14) Finish the books I have and read more. This month, I read Sandpiper Drift by Vanessa DelFabbro, and The Edge of Recall by Kristen Heitzmann.
15) Spend time with and love the people around me. April was full of trips to see family and friends, including: an unexpected family funeral gathering, a trip to Kansas to see a cousin, and a Saturday at Crystal Bridges Art Museum with my granddad. I also walked with friends, shopped with my housemates, and continued to enjoy house dinners.

Vegetarian Slow Cooking
Remember when I posted about the new cookbook my best friend bought me for Valentine's Day? Yeah, I cook from it every week now. Using the crockpot is just so easy! I can fix it and forget about it, and most recipes make a week's worth of meals. Below is a list of the recipes I have made so far:
(Check out the Easy Vegetarian Slow Cooker cookbook here.)

Update on THE LIST
In case you wanted to know how THE LIST is going...
1) GO! on a cruise. It's booked! I feel both fearful and excited: fearful that I might get seasick, or sick, or hate the small cabin; but excited to soak up sunshine, spend time with a dear friend, and see new places.
2) Stop checking e-mail on my phone while at work.I continued to have problems with this, so I took it off my phone. Speaking of which, I turned on e-mail for a trip this weekend, but need to turn it off again.
3) Use more glass storage containers and less plastic. What happens when I run out of glass? Maybe I need to obtain more glass. Or maybe, if I had less access to plastic, I would use more glass?
4) Find my rambunctious side again.I made a funny comment on a work e-mail. That counts for something, right?
5) Memorize some new scripture, or at least review the old. (Ps 119:105).I'm working on Philippians. It's hard!
6) Clean out the pantry (fridge, freezer, et. al) and go on a grocery spend fast until it is done.
I'm stocking up again, but it is good to keep an eye on what I have and try to keep using it up.
7) Purge excess. Soak up blessing.I took a few things back out of the garage sale box. I am trying to find balance in this area.
8) Run a 5K.Done! My housemates and I ran the Fight Back 5K for the American Cancer Society. I did not beat my first, and best 5K time, but I ran faster than I usually do. Yeah!
9) Embrace the quiet.I didn't listen to music the whole time on my road trip....
10) Pursue counseling licensure.I should receive notice in two weeks if the state board approves my classes. Please pray for favor!
11) Rest (Ps 46:10; Matt 11:28-29).Still struggling here....
12) Trim down the processed. Bulk up the produce. (In my diet)This lovely cookbook from a friend is helping immensely: Easy Vegetarian Slow Cooker Cookbook: 125 Fix-and-Forget Vegetarian Recipes. (But be forewarned: Every recipe says it serves six, but most often serves 8-10).
13) Bullet journal plan—streamline my to-do list.I've had paper lists out tonight, but I'm working on it.
14) Finish the books I have and read more.
I finished Every Thought Captive ly Jerusha Clark last night and highly recommend it. I also read Where the Wind Leads by Dr. Vinh Chung and Tales of a Church Mouse by John Edgell. Not a lot, but something
15) Spend time with and love the people around me. I got to see an aunt, uncle, and cousins last weekend. I just returned from a less than 24 hour trip for a family funeral. Family is not perfect, but it is worth sacrificing for. "God sets the lonely in families" (Ps 68:6, New International Version).
16) Blog. Instagram. Something. (Experiment.)
I am not writing on here as much as I would like. I want to "develop" some more oatmeal recipes, but have not. I don't know how long this blog thing will last. If you read this blog and want to see more of a particular type of post, please comment. Thanks
